United’s web site doesn’t subtract very well
I tried to book a ticket from Miami to Shanghai today and to apply a US$500 certificate United had sent me after the problems with my flight to Dublin over the summer. Each time I tried to book the web site error-ed and told me to call Web Support. Having done this they told that…
United returns three-class service to Honolulu (ex-IAH)
Looks at flights this morning I noticed that United appears to be flying an ex-UA plane (3 class, 777, old config) from Houston to Honolulu. I fondly remember the days when United flew 747’s with three class, international service to Hawaii. Those were the days!
A surreal day with United
I flew yesterday from San Juan, through Newark to Chicago and had something of a weird day. San Juan to Newark Boarding for the flight was fine, although it does have a very tight turnaround time so everything seemed a little rushed and we arrived at departure time just as the last person sat down.…
United IT systems – at it again – check your balances….
I woke up this morning to find that United had deducted just over 8,000 status miles (PQM – Premier Qualifying Miles as United calls them), from my account. What? Well, checking my statement online reveals that my recent LAX-LHR with Air New Zealand, in Business Class has been designated as no longer earning PQM. The…
United co-pays costs non-US members real cash
Some time ago I wrote about how United disadvantages International Members – for example by denying us the chance to search for upgrade space at the time by booking. If your country is set to anything apart from US, then you get an error message. The post is linked above. The latest twist is…
Anatomy of a Cancellation
About two weeks I was booked from Copenhagen to Frankfurt, on the LH A380 on to San Francisco and finally on to Honolulu with United. The ticket was the return of a trip from HNL with United two weeks before. Of course my travel day happened to occur on the same day as LH’s cabin…
If Lufthansa cancels your flight – DON’T call the number in the text message
Lufthansa is having a strike by its flight attendants and tomorrow, 7 September will be the most disrupted day. It is also the day that I was supposed to fly from Copenhagen, via Frankfurt to San Francisco and Honolulu. The FRA-SFO was on an A380 which I was have never taken on a long flight and so wanted to check out. Knowing that there have been problems for a week or so, I added my mobile number to my LH booking. Just before bed I checked the LH web site and my flight wasn’t on the list of cancellations. In fact, at that point the list was suspiciously short. So when an hour later I got this text I was not suprised: So thinking the number supplied might be a special number for cancellations I had my phone dial the number. “This is neither a landline nor mobile number and you will be charged at £3.50 per minute” . So US$5 per…
How much worse can United delays get?
Hot on the heels of the problems United had last weekend with their computers, I wanted to let readers know about my experiences the weekend before. After leaving the Radisson LAX I headed to the airport and Terminal 6 where United send their Hawaii flights, amongst others. The old Continental Club is re-branded as United…
How do you wash an 777?
‘Carefully’ is the proper answer. I was at the United Club at Honolulu last week – and that has to win the nomination for the least friendly United Club staff anywhere in the system – and noticed out the window that several men with mops appear to have surrounded a 777.
