BA changed Avios earning on AA from 1 January 2022 – who noticed?

As a traveller that flies a fair amount of American Airlines (AA) flights, I noticed that a flight that had been rebooked, following schedule changes, earned more Avios than I expected.

The agent had rebooked me in to D class and I earned extra Avios. This is the earning rates up to 31 December 2021.

Pretty simple, all Business Class fares are the same and earn 1.25% of the miles flown.

Whilst having a bit of time this morning, and noting that todays ticket had also been rebooked in to D, I checked the BA web site.

Imagine my surprise when I found that not all Business (nor First Class) fares are the same any longer. The new rates give more Avios on higher fares. By a fair bit. These are the new earning rates:

If you end up on a First Class ticket or high class Business Fare your earnings have doubled for J, D and F fares, with a decent increase for A fares. There is even a small increase for R and I fares from 125% to 150%. These rates match earnings on BA own fare classes.
