I wrote earlier in the week about a couple of excellent flights with United. I forgot to mention the moment of panic when I came to checkin online and United’s web site – briefly – thought I was sitting in 15C and not in 1C! Not sure how this happened but the boarding pass came…

The art of removing a passenger
I was on the late Washington Dulles to Orlando flight yesterday evening. During the boarding process a man, probably in his mid-20’s and 6ft 6in tall boarded. He put his head around the cockpit door and said ‘Hello Officers’. No one paid him much attention, but he was talking to himself as he went past…
Just when I thought United could not surprise me……it did!
I had reason to fly to/from New York yesterday using United’s ps service. This used to be a three class premium service operating to/from LAX and San Francisco and New York, JFK. The flight was favoured by elite members as there were relatively a large number of Business Class seats, and you could occasionally…
You know you’re flying with a United crew when…..
After several days of flying with former Continental crews I had a rude awakening on my A-320 operated flight from Denver to San Francisco yesterday, which was operated by a former United crew. The first indication was a captain who felt that the whole experience was to operate at his convenience. At boarding time he…
UA removes 747 service from LAX, 777 on all SYD services from 1 April
United has confirmed that it is to terminate 747 service from LAX on 1 April 2014, with the introduction of a 777-200 for it’s LAX-SYD-MEL service. The SFO-SYD service also goes 777 on the same date. The 777-200’s are a three class service, quashing speculation (at least for now) that an old-Continental 2-class plane would…
UA935 LHR-LAX diverting to Washington, after leaving 4 hours late
Not sure what is going on here, but pretty happy I am not on that flight!
Just as everyone is leaving Yemen, UA lets you use your miles to go!
Don’t know why I looked but…..
No United luggage wraps for international 1K’s
I suppose it is a small thing in comparison to the minimum spend requirements soon to be faced by US-based 1K’s, but United have now confirmed that International 1K’s won’t be getting their new priority bag handle wraps. The email from United confirms that the wraps, designed to tell staff unloading your bags from small…
Marriott Status from United works!
United announced its new partnership with Marriott earlier in the week and the blogs were all a-twitter with the news. Further details are here. Registration was done online. Well despite registration saying it would take some time, I can confirm my Marriott Rewards account upgraded to Gold today, (from Silver), based on my United 1K…
AA/UA Summer Mileage runs from London – £2336 to Rio in Business Class via USA
£2336 for a round-trip – EQM 29,668 but choose the routing carefully. No minimum stay requirement it seems. On AA it comes in at £2159 for 620 Tier points, although you can make it 680 depending on availability, but including 2 segments on the 777-300:
