After my posting at the weekend about the changes at Hilton beginning to bite, I noticed that I had received more Virgin Atlantic miles than one would expect. Further research shows that three airlines offer 2 miles per US $1, rather than the 1 mile usually offered. Excerpt from Hilton’s website shows:
Train to be cabin crew – for £19 ?
Groupon in the UK sent me an offer this morning for an online, self-paced course, to study to become cabin crew, for £19. I am not sure if this would get you a job, but they do say that they can check and submit cv’s so it seem legit. It might be fun to do,…
BA distributing ‘Under Seat Bag’ labels at gate
On my flight back from Dublin today, the BA gate agent was circulating amongst passengers looking for anyone with two carry on items. Passengers were then, very nicely, asked to put the smaller item under the seat and a label was added to the handle of the bag. At boarding the crew asked people to…
HHonors changes begin to show
I had a recent stay at the Hilton Dublin Airport, whilst paying an extraordinarily good rate (EUR 66), in the current sale, the changes to HHonors have shown up now the stay has posted. Crediting to my Virgin account, before the changes I would have earned 1,000 miles by double dipping the fixed amount per…
London Victoria Line suspended – quick drying cement poured in to control room
Transport For London are currently reporting that the Victoria Line is partly suspended due to Flooding at Victoria. The truth is much odder…. The material with which their control room is flooded is quick drying cement. One suspects it may be some time before the line is back to normal.

BA (partially) abandons Boarding Pass checking at door of plane
I have just got off a BA flight London to Dublin, where the crew did not the check the boarding passes at the door of the plane. Always of questionable use when the gate agent has checked them 2 minutes before, they often cause problems and confusion for passengers unfamiliar with this quirk. Apparently it’s…
EU Air Traffic Controllers action – 29 January 2014
It appears that there will likely to disruption to European Air Services on 29 January following calls for ‘A Day of Action’ by ATCEUC, which represents 28 Unions and 14,000 controllers across Europe. A previous threat of action for October was postponed but the Union’s requirements have not been met by the EU. The ATC’s…
February Travels
My February travels feature another mistake fare. This one was from Johannesburg, via Istanbul to Zurich on Turkish Airlines. I mentioned in my January travels post that Jan featured a number of firsts. February doesn’t provide so many chances, but there are a couple: First long haul flight on Turkish Airlines First time on the…
