Around 2am on the Saturday morning that I was leaving New York for LA, I received a text message from United to let me know that my EWR-LAX flight had been cancelled and that they had booked me on a flight 2 hours later. That was weird – as my immediate thought was why put…

2013 Year is over, status done and now for 2014 – BA, United and Hyatt
Looking back on 2013, TripIt tells me: that I flew 130,000 miles or so, visited 40 cities in 11 countries all based on the information stored in their system about my trips. In terms of status, I have managed to retain my Diamond Membership with Hyatt: And flown over the 100,000 miles with United for…
United updates Mileage Plus web display to accommodate new requirements
Luckily, outside the USA, United has not yet implemented the annual minimum spend to earn status, in addition to the mileage requirement. To accommodate this, United has updated its display on the web site. The non-US version looks like this: The new presentation seem clearer and highlights the key requirements. Happy New Year.
Christmas is over – mark your January 2014 calendar – 6th and 31st are devaluation days
Time to start thinking about taking down the tree and decorations, working out who is going to be re-gifted with that sweater from Auntie, and how long you have to spend at the gym to work off the calories put on during Christmas. But don’t forget – DEVALUATIONS ARE COMING If you have a few…
Using United Certificates as a non-US resident
Some weeks ago I wrote a post on ‘The anatomy of a delay’ about a very long delay on United when flying from Washington DC to Fort Lauderdale. United responded by providing a number of options under their Customer Appreciation scheme – a 10% reduction on a future fare, a $200 credit or 8,000 miles.…

Checking the UA web site, on a tip-off from my flight attendants, it appears that most if not all United flights from EWR to Europe are cancelled tonight.

United has indicated that it will be dropping its Narita to/from Bangkok flights in early 2014. As part of its agreement with other airlines (ANA), service will be provided until 29 March 2014 by United. Apparently the United staff at BKK have been told about this. Of course ANA will not be offering upgrades using…

Is this the longest reply ever from United Airlines?
I found this post on LinkedIn, in the United Airlines 1K Group. As a passenger who normally elicits a three paragraph reply from United’s Customer Service, I am astouned that United has replied in this length: Thank you for your recent e-mails regarding your dissatisfaction with our MileagePlus program and service in general since…
1 November 2013 – a day to remember
It appears that 1 November 2013 will be a day that many frequent flyers will remember for a long time. In order of importance: (1) The Shooting at LAX Many people complain about the TSA or make ugly comments about their procedures or personnel. I don’t like them myself and have been know to complain…
