Hotels in the UK about to get a fair bit cheaper – until 12 Jan 2021

In an attempt to stimulate the hospitality sector the UK Chancellor of the Exchechor has just announced a cut in VAT (sales tax) on accommodation from 20% from 15 July, to 5% until 12 Jan 2020.

As the VAT is included in most UK hotel rates most should go down, or course some hotels may try to pocket the VAT saving by increasing the underlying price of the room.

He also appears to have announced discounts in restaurants (which ones aren’t stated) for August. Let’s see how that goes.

Keep a watch for the inevitable get outs when the details get published later today.
