REVIEW – Tropicana Las Vegas – a Doubletree hotel

Delano Las Vegas

The Tropicana is just across the road from New York New York and Excalibur, although on my stay the direct walkway was closed requiring me walk around the other three side of the junction – a real pain.

Upon entering the hotel the Reception desk is to the left, and up a short flight of stairs there is a Diamond HHonors check-in office – useful if there is a long queue at the main desk.

I wasn’t offered an upgrade, but told that I could spend $13 at the hotels outlets and they would take it off the bill. In the end I spent about $15 at the on-site Starbucks and it was all taken off.

My room was in the tower section of the hotel which required me to go up an escalator at the back of the gaming floor, along a walkway and then up in the lift to my floor.

I was about half way up the tower and the views were of the adjacent MGM Grand.

The room was at the end of the corridor and was spacious, with plenty of empty space.

There was a comfy chair and large windows fitted with louvers for blinds.

The decor was slightly dated but the room was clean. There was a separate desk and the WiFi had a decent speed when I connected.

The bathroom was fine if a little uninspiring.

The room was quiet and I think the hotel was pretty empty. I booked through the iPhone app to secure the 5,000 point bonus being offered for stays paid by VISA and the triple points being offered at the moment. However, I am having the most dreadful problems getting the extra points credited. I hate it when this sort of thing is a fight.

SUMMARY

A slightly dated property but perfectly serviceable and has good rates at weekends as well as weekdays.

Comments

  1. I stayed there last month. The hotel is very reluctant to give upgrades for hhonors diamond members. That is despite the diamond check-in lounge.Having caught them in a lie about better room availability the hotel manager got involved and upgraded me to a suite and gave me a $50 credit. I had to call hhonors customer relations to get the points and nights credited. The ‘best’ thing about the hotel is that it is near the airport.
