The Sheraton at Malpensa Airport is very conveniently located right across the terminal in Milan. (Milan has two airports, Linate and Malpensa so you need to be sure which one you need if you are coming here as they are some distance apart.)
There are signs throughout the airport on the arrivals level which direct you to the hotel.
On entering the hotel through the double doors (shown above) you are on the Reception level. There was only a small queue as I checked in – principally aircrew checking out for their overnights to the Middle East and Asia.
The hotel confirmed that they had upgraded me to a mountain-view room, which as a lowly Starwood Gold, was a nice gesture.
The rooms are on the floors above reception, and spread in opposite directions. On coming out of the lift I had to walk across a large open area to get to the block of rooms where mine was located.
The room was near to the entrance to my wing. A quickly swipe of my card and I was in.
The room was large, with the bathroom immediately inside the door. A reasonably sized TV was on the wall and there was a kettle with tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The window has reflective panel segments hung to cover the floor to ceiling windows on sunny days. Blackout blinds and curtain were also provided. It was easy to get the room dark.
I was tired and so wanted to sleep. After faffing around with the light switches I got the room dark enough to do this.
I slept well, waking refreshed. The view from the window was of the car parks, with the hills in the background.
The bathroom was large with a bath, loo and basin. There were plenty of towels in the room.
The large escalator too me back down to Reception in the morning where there was a longer queue and quite a number of annoyed people waiting for the single agent to come free. The registration and invoice signing is done on a tablet attached to the front of the desk, that is painfully slow and so each person took far longer that is normal.
A short walk (5 mins) back to the airport led me up a long escalator to check-in.
Overall a good stay at a property with easy access from to and from the airport. I found the staff friendly, fluent in English and had a good nights sleep.
It seems that the only other nearby decent hotels are the Holiday Express and Crowns Plaza about 2km to the Southwest of the terminal in a small village. I’ve stayed at the HIX and it’s very average, although the town is nice to walk around and has a good restaurant in the evenings. Nice review.
