Hilton has a number of properties in and around Dublin and I had previously stayed at the Conrad, which I had really enjoyed. This is my review from 2014.
The Hilton Dublin by contrast I never warmed to. I am not sure why, was it the ordinary rooms, the lacklustre staff or just the poor location.
The cab ride took about 25 minutes from the airport and I used an Uber (new to Dublin) and so it was cheaper than a metered cab. The bus from the airport does not go close to the hotel and I wasn’t doing two changes!
I arrived about 2pm, and whilst the room I had picked during online check-in was not available, they had similar one a couple of doors down. The Receptionist, acknowledged my Diamond status, ordered snacks to be sent to the room and directed me to the lifts. You use your room key to get access to your floor. My King Room was a short walk from the lift.
The room was pleasantly decorated, but nothing special.
The free internet, obtained by booking directly via Hilton, came via a code supplied at check-in. It was fairly fast and I was able to catch up with some work. The bed was comfortable, and from the room you could see the tram stop. There were plenty of UK/EU electrical outlets on the desk.
The view, from the top (5th) floor was not especially inspiring, but there was little road noise.
As it was my last night on holiday I treated myself to Room Service. During online checkin they offered a deal for EUR40 credit for EUR30 which I took up. Good job as the hotel charges a EUR10 tray charge for room service and you need to add a tip.
The snacks came up at the same time.
There a good size flat screen TV in the room with a large number of Irish and International channels available. I slept well and took a nice bath in the reasonably sized bath before going down for breakfast.
There were a reasonable number of towel but no bathrobe.
Breakfast was free as a Diamond member and take in the restaurant just off Reception. The staff were efficent by unfriendly. The food was a large buffet with a good selection of hot and cold items.
The coffee machine was under repair so I needed to catch the eye of the waitress whenever I wanted a refill.
Going back to the room I noticed the view from the internal rooms was pretty dull and was grateful for an outside facing room.
The bill was correct at check-out and the cab took about 30 minutes to get me back to the airport.
Overall, an average but uninspiring stay.
I wish you had written about the location. Where is Hilton located? What is located nearby? Business or tourist spots? Restaurants? The would have been helpful information.
No restaurants nearby at all.
It is two stops on the Luas Green Line from St. Stephen’s Green. So a bit South of city center. Nice pub on the canal just across the street. Can’t recall the name. the barge?
