I was waiting diligently for my connecting flight when it encountered a delay, and then another delay and then an indefinite delay. As I was travelling only for only one night I hopped off to the Admirals Club where they rebooked me such that I did not travel to the Caribbean. I logged on to their free WiFi and looked for somewhere to stay the night. My usual choice, the Hyatt House was full as was the close-by Hyatt Place. My next option was a 15 minute cab ride away, the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. For a long time this was the nearest option to the MIA airport. The rate was pretty decent so I exited the airport, grabbed a taxi that was prepared to go that way and was soon at the Front Desk of the hotel.
Not being busy they upgraded me as a Diamond Gold Passport member to a nice junior suite, with a decent sized seating area in front of the TV.
The decoration had been recently refreshed.
The bathroom featured a good size tub, a changing area with basin.
It was comfortable and quiet for the one night stay. I went down to breakfast in the restaurant in the morning.
It is located on the ground floor through the bar area and has views out on to a courtyard.
The staff were great and unusually I selected a sweet, rather than savoury offering. The Diamond Gold Passport included an entree, coffee/tea and as much juice as I could consume. The food came out fairly quickly and was great. One of the best breakfast’s I can remember having in a long while.
The hotel is located in an area surrounded by offices, apartment buildings and other hotels. The views from the room were not especially startling. Below is the swimming pool.
There were cabs waiting outside so it was fairly easy to get back to the airport. The fare was about $25 each way including a tip.
I have not been here for a long time and it has undergone a nice renovation. The staff were super and I would certainly stay here again. The only disadvantage is the cab ride in each direction, but it is a full-service hotel, against the the Hyatt House or Hyatt place properties.
