In the middle of the week I received a new 1K welcome pack from United. Assuming it was merely the first one which had gone missing earlier in the year, I didn’t pay much attention. However, when I opened it I noted that United had sent me a new 1K card valid until Jan 2016, noting this was as a 3 million mile flyer.
I was perplexed – why has United suddenly done this? are they changing the rules in 2016 of the Million Miler programme?. Bearing in mind I have a United Club card that expires long after I am likely to be dead – 2099, I found it odd that they hadn’t done the same with the Mileage Plus Card.
No one seems to know why now!
There were also 10 beverage coupons and 2 more bag tags in the pack.
Are you a 3MM, did you get yours yet?
How many 3MM’s could there be? I also didn’t recieve my card yet, not a 3MM though. They seem to have issues.
Maybe it is to avoid the debacle that they experienced this year with the late cards. Might as well get these ones out of the way early. Or maybe the vendor is planning to raise prices and UA can save a few shekels by sending these out before the price increase?
Incremental gains toward a $2B goal…think of the savings when they don’t have to send you a packet next year!

Perhaps they are short changing you on the drink chits, since they no longer have to send you the package yearly.
