During my cancelled flights due to fog at London City Airport in December, I stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Express, Royal Docks. I suppose this name sounds better than Holiday Inn Express, Canning Town, which is what is should be called.
A 10 minute walk from Canning Town DLR and Underground station the property does not have the most spectacular views:
although you can see the buildings at Canary Wharf in the distance.
Set a little back from the main road, the property is quite large by HIX averages. The property looks like a big silver box from the outside:
I was allocated room 206 and offered a choice of a drink/snack or points. This time I took the drink/snack as I knew I would have to get something to eat later on that evening.
The room was large for Holiday Inn Express (HIX), although of a standard layout:
There is no room service and the bar had nothing in terms of snacks, there is a nice Italian Restaurant about 5 minutes walk away. The Reception provided me with a menu and I called to place an order. 10 minutes later I walked over and picked up a very nice pizza, which I washed down with a glass of white wine, which I used as my drink.
I was there long enough for breakfast. The breakfast area consisted of a large number of tables with an area where the food was provided. When I arrived, at the start of service, there was no hot food and this took quite a while to appear which was disappointing:
The morning was clear and I hopped off on the bus from the stop outside direct to London City Airport
Summary
Not a bad property, although like all HIX, it’s fairly basic.
I stayed there on New Year’s Day before à flight from LCY first thing the next morning. Fairly standard HIX fare, although agree the Italian next door was pretty good. Mind you I only paid £25 so couldn’t really complain!
