I have stayed at the Intercontinental in Berlin before – you can read about my Club Intercontinental stay here.
On this occasion as the stay was really for The Big Win promo from IHG I picked the cheapest room – a Superior Room. My guaranteed one room upgrade as an Intercontinental Ambassador member, the put me in a Deluxe room.
I had not stayed in this room type before and it was a bit of a revelation in terms of how nice it was.
Located in the older part of the property (west side), I was given a room about half way up the tower.
The lobby is low, somewhat dark, but had nice Christmas Decorations:
The room was huge! It must have been two rooms when this tower was the cheaper Intercontinental brand – Forum. Immediately inside the door, to the left, was the bathroom:
A large bath, shower, toilet and bidet, this area would have put several 5* properties to shame.
The bedroom was equally large and appointed in modest tones, tope being the most prevalent:
A sofa and large TV’s were at the opposite end from the bed:
As you can see there were two large windows in the room, which enjoyed excellent views (even on a misty day), towards the East of the city:
The smarter side of the hotel was also visible:
Summary:
A nice hotel, with a good upgrade for Ambassador members, very close to the Zoo and about 10 minutes walk to KaDeWe. The 200 tourist bus stops outside so it’s a good location to stay for a first visit as you can easily get to most places in the city from here.
The Berlin Intercontinental is a great hotel. One of the best standard rooms I ever had in a hotel in Europe.
