On my one night stopover in Shanghai earlier in the month I returned to the Grand Hyatt Shanghai. Two reason really – I originally had a very early arrival and so knew they would let me sit in the lounge until a room was ready and it’s cheaper that the Park Hyatt but not as far as the Andaz. Hence another stay here. My last review is here.
I know my way pretty well from exit 6 of the subway station now, and again took the Maglev link to connect with Line 2. There was a New Zealand family opposite me with a boy of about 12 who was genuinely fascinated with how fast the Maglev went, in that way in which children can marvel at feats of engineering.
As usual I popped past the front desk so that someone could activate the lift for me to the Grand Club check-in. The agent, without prompting, confirmed that my room was ready! Great.
The staff in the Club were as friendly as ever, as I showed them my 24 hours Chinese visa stamp. I was on a lower floor this time – 87 – and in a differently shaped room:
Shortly after I arrived a fruit bowl was delivered, I told the member of staff that I had one, but he happily offered a second:
The building across the road from the Grand Hyatt continues to grow:
It was a little hazy but the views of the river and Bund were as interesting as ever:
The 4pm check-out request was readily agreed to, and so I spent a pleasant day in Shanghai until it was time to go to the airport for my flight to LAX.
