Room 218 is at one end of the hotel, and overlooks the passage way that runs up the side of the hotel, separating it from it’s neighbour. As the passage is a dead-end there is not much traffic, and not much accompanying noise.

On entering the room you have to insert your key card to activate the lights and are greeted by a small hallway:

The room opens in to two distinct areas – a sitting area, with desk, sofa and chair as well as several small tables and lights placed around the room. The other area is the bedroom.

The circular carpet is modern in design but has colours prompted by traditional dutch pottery.

There is wired and wireless WiFi (more about this later).

The bedroom is divided from the living room by a large wall and two sliding doors. The wall has a TV on both sides enable you to watch from the Living or Bedrooms.

 

The bathroom opens from the bedroom with a large glass wall with integral door. The bathroom door is glass, so you need to remember to leave it open in case you have to get up in the dark to use the loo. Head bangs or damaged toes could result otherwise.

The bathroom features a large roll-top bath located in the centre of the room, a seperate shower room, two sinks designed to match the quirky nature of the building and a toilet. There is a tip here – the hand towels are located underneath the sinks, in a roll out drawer.

The toilet is brightly decorated with a montage of graphic images, maps, facts and mottoes:

This has to be the most idiosyncratic toilet I have ever seen in a hotel bathroom.

Also to be noted is that the (single) bath towel is huge – wrapped around me 1 1/2 times – no mean feat. Hyatt, not famous for big towels, has done well here.

The room features the standard Mini-bar offering of free soft drinks and snacks and paid for alcohol and beer. The mini-bar was not replenished during my stay.

I slept soundly and work ready for breakfast!
