Flyertalk Hyatt DO, London – October 2012 – Day 1

a sign on a book

This past weekend about 50 Flyertalk members and spouses met at the Hyatt Regency Churchill London for a weekend of activities. Organised by Jenny, a Flyertalk member the event was actively sponsored by American Express, the hotel itself and Hyatt Gold Passport. Miles from Blighty stumped up for the very English Humbugs included in the Goody Bags.

The Thursday night kicked off with a Champagne Reception, sponsored by the hotel in the Library Room at the hotel. This great space is very British and really gave people a feel for an old Country House.

a room with a couch and bookshelvesWhilst the champagne flowed and people got to know each other I went off to explore the hotel.

It has a very modern feel with lots of very modern art around the ground floor.

a statue in a roomThe Reception desk, located to the right of the entrance was well manned, with often 2-3 people on duty and people not having to wait for a couple of seconds. There was a large (quite controversial) portrait of The Queen behind reception:

The property itself is well located, just North of Oxford Street on a tree lined square. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained, with really nice planting around the entrance. The hotel itself is quite photogenic at night:

People drifted away ready for the next day when some were spending time exploring London whilst others went to the Virgin Training Centre at Gatwick.

Two late additions to the guest list!
