Crowne Plaza Hotel – LAX – staying on the ‘Circus Animal-free’ floor

I stayed last weekend, on the way back from Hawaii to the UK, at the Crowne Plaza LAX. Located in the stretch of hotels just outside the airport, it is close to the Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott.

Shuttle

The hotel shares the shuttle with the Renaissance Hotel but stops at the Crowne Plaza first.

Check-In

There was a short queue at check-in, but the wait was no longer than 5 minutes. The agent gave me a free coffee certificate, confirmed that I could have breakfast in the Executive Lounge in the morning despite being booked on the 14th floor and then directed me to the elevators. You need to use your room key in the lifts to get to your assigned floor.

14th Floor

Upon exiting the lift the floor was one of the renovated floors and have this rather fun sign on the way to the rooms:

a sign on a wall

No circus animals .... or door slamming

I though this was a good things as long as people stuck to it. My room was right at the end of the corridor which usually makes a quiet night easier. The rooms are allocated on two wings coming from the lift lobby:

My room was at the bottom left of the photo above.

A number of rooms on the floor were being renovated, but mine was complete.

The Room

Opening the door showed a fresh, bright room that had clearly been refreshed recently.

The bed was very comfortable and the WiFi speedy. The carpet and furnishings were very nicely done and made the room feel restful and calming.

As I was facing front there was some aircraft noise from the take offs across the road. The refurbishment drilling did not start until about noon.

Recognition of Priority Club Platinum Status

a paper with text on itThe back of the free coffee voucher listed benefits for each level of membership. Although I wasn’t allocated a room on the 16th Floor, my 14th Floor room was more than adequate.

The coffee offer was pretty good – a large latte!

Free WiFi is provided by a code at check-in and selecting the Priority Club Gold WiFi signal.

I did go up to the Executive Club for breakfast and whilst small it is manned. There were only 5 or 6 people at any time in the room and so there were plenty of seats. The food offerings were cereal, fruit, oatmeal (hot), warm scrambled eggs as well as coffee and juices.

The member of staff working the room was helpful – refreshing juice, clearing and cleaning so the room always looked its best.

Public Areas

The thing I do like about this hotel is that it has an onsite Pizza bakery. I could not locate the Room Service menu in my room so wandered downstairs where they made, before my eyes, a nice chicken pizza. You can charge these to your room (can you say more points).

Check-Out

Very quick with a helpful agent.

Shuttle back to airport

Shuttle came in 5 minutes and ran express back to the airport in 10 minutes.

Summary

A nice property that will become a favourite once the renovations are finished.
