NY increases cab fares – JFK Manhattan fare now $52 +tip/tolls

I understand that a 20% increase in cab fares in New York has happened in the past few days.

In addition the base fixed fare to/from JFK has increased to $52 plus tips and toll. In addition there is 50 cent NY surcharge.

  1. IMO, they should have peak ($52) and off-peak ($42) fares from JFK. I can understand the money aspect when it takes the driver as much as 2 hours one-way during rush hour, but it also takes them as little as 20-30 minutes during much of the off-peak hours.
