This week has been a bit of a tour of Germany, with a short hop back to the UK in the middle. Originally planned to visit all of the German Hyatts (Mainz, Koln, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin), this had to be changed when I needed to miss Koln, and when I no longer needed the last 5 hits to remain Diamond at Gold Passport.
With the USAirways Grand Slam promo underway I decided to switch the Mainz stay to the Hilton City. There are two Hilton’s in Mainz and as I was getting in late I picked the closer to the train station, and the cheaper. The hotel itself is a ten minute walk from the station, or a EUR7 cab ride and is fairly nondescript from the outside:
I checked in at about 10pm and was told that I had received a double-upgrade, would get free internet and a free breakfast in the restaurant as a Hilton Gold. The room, on the 5th floor, was not too special to look at, but turned out to be double height and have a small balcony. It was in lovely!
Although the lady at the Restaurant did not know about my free breakfast it had been removed by the time I came to check out. The staff constantly addressed me by name, had no problem changing the miles to USAirways and even offered to update my HHonors profile with the number for me! Superb service, a nice room and a free breakfast. Well done Hilton.
Going there in a few weeks. Do you recommend Hilton Mainz hotel or Hilton Mainz City?
What did you think of the Hilton Mainz compared to the Hyatt? I stayed at the Hyatt on the river once, and really enjoyed the river view. Your Hilton review certainly makes the hotel sound appealing.
I think if you plan to do things in the City then the Hilton City is a good location, and good value.
I am afraid that I the only Hyatt I have not stayed at in Germany is Mainz!
