BBC reporting 48 hours pre-arrival COVID test to be required by UK

In the past few minutes the BBC is reporting that the new regulations for arriving in the UK will require passengers to obtain a negative COVID test before leaving for the UK.

What is unclear is the type of test and how long in advance it can be taken to acceptable, as well as implications of connecting passengers. It’s unusual for such a significant announcement to be made late on a Saturday.

The change starts at 4am on Tuesday of next week.

Nigeria has been added to the Red List (requiring mandatory hotel quarantine) from 4am on Monday.
