UK blocks travellers from most South American countries from 15 Jan (04:00)

In another example of closing the stable door, the UK Government has woken up to the Brazil strain of Covid and will be banning passengers from a number of South American countries plus Portugal. The list is:

  • Argentina,
  • Brazil,
  • Bolivia,
  • Cape Verde,
  • Chile,
  • Colombia,
  • Ecuador,
  • French Guiana,
  • Guyana,
  • Panama,
  • Paraguay,
  • Peru,
  • Suriname,
  • Uruguay,
  • Venezuela,

There are exemptions for UK nationals and Irish nationals or those with rights of residence in the UK who can enter the UK but must isolate for 10 days after arrival.

A passenger locator form must be completed before arrival in the UK.

The link indicates that Test and Release, whereby a test is taken 5 days after arrival and subject to a negative test, the quarantine can be ended after the result is received.
