In Terminal 4S at Madrid, most flights are long haul journeys to the US, Africa and the rest of the world. This means big planes and a big lounge. In fact the Velazquez lounge is huge – with two feeding stations – one at each end. (During my visit the Restaurant was not open as I was taking the 4pm flight to JFK).
The doors open to the service desk where the staff warmly welcomed me and checked my Boarding Pass. Behind the desk the seating areas, in front of the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the runways, spread to the left and right.
I found that the right hand side (as you faced the glass) was much busier than the left, although the offerings were the same at both ends. A mixture of self service hot and cold items.
The food was pretty tasty and the staff can warm it up if you want it hotter than luke-warm.
I found the hidden draw of ice-cream.
Free pour alcohol, wine and beer was available as were many soft drinks. The booze was not really premium but OK.
There are a number of different seating areas in the lounge:
There was WiFi available and electrical outlets in each of the seating areas. Staff cleared the dirty plates fairly often so the lounge had a nice clean feel. The only off thing was the shameless stuffing of food and drink items in their luggage by certain guests. I have seen this everywhere, but it was totally flagrant!
A nice, peaceful lounge that I would love to revisit.
At the far left and far right corners, there area seating areas with power sockets and ethernet cables. Some of the power sockets have converters in them for UK and US plugs, and the ethernet connection is normally quicker+easier than the wifi
Great review! Only problem I had with it was that I had to keep scratching off the WiFi cards since I was there for a few hours. This lounge was actaullky the very first review we ever did on our site http://www.pointsmd.com/lounge-review-mad-iberia-velazquez-vip-lounge/
