What a difference 18 months makes – Crowne Plaza Geneva

Crowne Plaza Geneva

In February 2012 I visited a very run down Crowne Plaza hotel near Geneva Airport.

Returning last weekend it was clear that a lot of cash had been spent to bring it up to a more modern standard. Thankfully.

The shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes from the airport, right past the taxi line. As I got in late at night I was tempted in a cab, but there were not interested in such a short journey. Luckily a few minutes later the shuttle arrived and I was at the hotel only about 8 minutes later. I had forgotten how close the property is to the airport.

The three lifts have been refreshed and look almost new.

The corridors have also been refreshed with new carpets, wall paper and paint.

At check-in I was given a 600 point certificate as a Platinum Priority Club member, offered a drink in the bar and breakfast in the restaurant as the Club Lounge was closed, and directed to my room on the 8th floor. At the end of the corridor I immediately noticed a difference when I opened the door. Bright with a nice range of colours the room felt new:

A large flatscreen HD TV was installed on the wall opposite the bed, a separate table and seat were also present:

There was a bottle of fruit juice and a bar of chocolate in the room.

The windows have electric blinds on the outside which close metal flaps to very effectively block out the light. The button for these is next to the bed. I slept well and used the shower (which has replaced the baths) in the room. The water pressure was disappointing and I would have expected a ceiling mounted rainshower with such a high quality refresh but it was not there.

There was a leaflet in the room that explained the Club Lounge (although as I mention it was closed) operating hours and services:

I did manage a glance through a window next to the locked door the next morning – Nice:

The next morning I went down to breakfast in the restaurant on the -1 Level which was a self service buffet with lots of hot and cold items:

The place was not full and I the food was decent for a hotel buffet.

I checked out and caught the shuttle back the airport which operates at :00, :20 and :40 minutes past each hour.
