I did a quick one night stay at the Grand Hyatt, New York. Once, the only Hyatt in New York, it has been some time since I have been here.
The lobby has undergone a huge renovation, and whilst still dark it does feel more airy.
I checked in with a machine, and was allocated a room on the 29th floor. I wanted to see what sort of room I would receive as a Diamond, when I did not engage with an agent. In truth, I was pretty pleased.
My room was on the back of the hotel, which reduces the noise although the view was not stellar:
The room itself was pretty large by Grand Hyatt standards:
Refurbished there was a nice seating area, a seperate desk, and plenty of room. A large closet but a standard Grand Hyatt New York bathroom – i.e. small. With a shower only – no tub – I would have been unhappy after a couple of days. But for one night it was OK.
With two windows the room was pretty light, but the shades meant that I slept well.
A missing element was a bathrobe.
The Regency Club Lounge is now on the 16th floor and has a nice outdoors area which was pleasant in the warm weather.
My only complaint was the $14 charge to have a FedEx package held by the hotel for my arrival.
I had almost the exact room. I agree it felt large for New York, but that bathroom drove me crazy. I wish they had allocated the space a little differently.
