Many of us will recall several years ago when Hyatt set the agenda for the hotel industry by announcing a series of initiatives – free internet for elites, free breakfasts for top tier, confirmable suite upgrades all arrived. Over the years that followed they tried some new things – 20% discount for elites for example but this will gi away from 1 January 2015.
Many have followed these trends, to a greater or lesser degree.
But yesterday Hyatt did again, throwing down the gauntlet by giving everyone at their hotels free internet. Whow! On Unlimited devices! Oh My!
Well the real Whow! factor is premium internet for elite members.
Intercontinental conned us when they gave elite members free internet, about 2 years after Hyatt, and then you only get the worst basic service for free. Everyone has to pay if you want a connection you can actually use. This has been one of my strongest complaints about that chain of late.
So, well done Hyatt, let’s see how long the rest of the hotel world takes to wake up.
This a wake-up call for Hilton Hotels. I can share that Hilton HHonors is busy with some changes for Diamond Members for 2015. After 2 years evaluation there will be changes to the Diamond Level. Their Top levels Diamond members are currently being tracked with their updated email addresses.
@Pascal – yes Hilton need to wake up. I am not sure that there will be much on offer for Diamonds myself – Lifetime recognition seems to be about it.
