A little while ago AA announced their route to HKG from Dallas, which just happens to be one of my favourite cities in the world! However, they didn’t release any of their award seats at Saver Level, meaning that you normally need double the number of miles for a ticket that you need at the Saver level.
With the merger with US I wanted to check what has happened and it appears to be good news, in a couple of ways:
(1) AA is now offering Saver reward tickets on this route, except in First Class.
(2) You can book with both your US and AA miles, but the miles required and taxes are different.
AA Award
Business Class – 110,000 miles roundtrip (one-way possible) and $40 taxes.
US Award
Business Class – 90,000 miles plus $90 in taxes.
So, if you have the choice it may be worth having a look at both schemes before you book until the merger happens.
Thanks for the heads up. I saw this yesterday when I was searching for award seats as well. Glad to see they have business award seats out now, hopefully few days later they will have some first award seats open up.
By the way, you might want to cover your AA account number that is showing on your first screen shot.
I’m confused – why are the taxes are different? I don’t believe US normally lists it’s $50 as part of the ticket cost.
if you want to use US mile, do you book the HKG route on US site? or AA site?
thanks.
@DJ – Use the web site of the airline whose miles you want to spend
@Barry – certainly I am lowest tier with DM and that may well be the reason.
