Hilton Southampton – Review

a house with a balcony and treesI needed to be in Southampton for a couple of days and looked at hotel options. The Hilton, which is to the north of Southampton, offered a very good rate – about £60 including Breakfast and Taxes. I checked and the property is participating in the Triple Points promo currently being run by Hilton.

The property is about a 10 minute taxi ride from the station at Southampton Airport – Southampton Airport Parkway. There are no easy public transport options from the airport, but there is a bus from the city which run quite close to the hotel. It would take about 20 minutes to get there.

Check-in was simple, with a very friendly agent who acknowledged my HHonors Gold status and checked me in. The hotel is not large – 5 floors, built in to a slope. This means that 3rd floor rooms are on the Reception level with two floors above and below. There are two lift which give easy access, although the wait can be lengthy.

The Reception has a Costa coffee shop, a bar, access to the restaurant and business centre.

Desk and TV

The flat screen TV had an excellent range of British stations as well as some from overseas.

The internet was wireless and worked well – fast and stable. It was free as a HHonors Gold Member. The missing item was that the room has no air conditioning, although as mentioned the window does open. The first image of this post is a picture from the window of the room. However, by having to have the window open lets in the noise of the motorway which is on the north side of the property.

Room Service

Room Service was priced in the normal range for UK hotels and was delivered promptly. I splurged on a dessert (pudding) for which I selected Apple Crumble and Custard:

Hotel Grounds

Whilst the hotel is close to the motorway and does not have much space, they have planted a large number of trees and shrubs. It creates a nice area to walk (although you can do it in ten minutes)

Breakfast

The hotel offered a full English Breakfast (as well as a wide range of cold items), and was busy by the time I left.

Check-Out

Check-out was quick and they called me a cab to my meeting without delay. The hotel seems to cater to cruise ships leaving from Southampton Dock as well as having a large party associated with a wedding.

Overall

A small Hilton, but very good value with pleasant rooms and staff. Definitely stay there again if I were in the area.
