UK to change testing regime (again)

The UK Government is set to change pre-arrival testing for international travellers, again.

They will remove the requirement to obtain a pre-arrival test and only require a lateral flow (rather than PCR) two days after arrival. With COVID rampant the old regime seemed both costly and deterring to visitors.

The need to self-isolate whilst the result of the lateral flow test is obtained has is being removed also.

If the Lateral Flow is positive self-isolation and a PCR test are required.

The change will come in for those arriving after 0400 on 7 January 2022.

I am sure that the post-arrival lateral flow will have to be a commercially sourced one as the NHS remains woefully understocked with free ones.

I also expect, given the short notice, that test providers and the online passenger locator system will be behind the curve.

Comments

  1. Thank you for the update! Hopefully all testing for travel will go away soon. I don’t think it ever helped anything.

  2. Yes, I still have two of their tests at home which I didn’t return. I’ll be using those when I get back in late Jan. Works fine and easy comms from their end.
