A £200 million investment at London City Airport received approval yesterday and will allow an increase in flight to 111,000 per year. (The current limit is 70,000). By 2023 the airport expansion will create an additional 1,500 jobs.

The changes will enable better use of the runway and allow more take-offs and landings at peak times as well as accommodate new aircraft types with longer ranges allowing a greater range of destinations.

The airport currently serves 46 destinations including the BA flights to New York JFK. The airport handled 3.65 million passengers last year, an increase of 8% over 2013.

Work is due to start towards the end of 2015.

  1. Good to hear. Will they be accomplishing the flight increase through the development of a dedicated taxiway?
