BA Terminal 1 International Lounge, Heathrow

BA operates a small number of routes from Terminal 1 at Heathrow. A hangover from it’s purchase of bmi (British Midland International), they still operate two lounges there. One is for their Irish flights whilst the other covers their international flights, and is much the nicer. This is also the lounge being used by USAirways now that it has left Star Alliance, but has yet to move to join American in Terminal 3 at LHR.

Located on the upper level of the terminal it is a relatively large and bright lounge with plenty of comfy seating, some decent food and usually a nice quiet atmosphere. There are PC’s and big printer so you can do some decent work.

The room has not changed much since the bmi days:

A variety of pastries:

There was also porridge.

At lunchtime they rolled out sandwiches, salads and soup:

There were also some very tasty curries – with and without meat:

The real benefit, for those that like watching the planes, is that there are large, floor-to-ceiling windows which give a great view of the north runway. This was being used for landing during my visit and so there were a selection of carriers going past. Worth getting there early if you enjoy that.

  1. What timing – I was there last Saturday on the way to Luxembourg! I still really like it as a lounge, especially with the comfy seats and daybeds that they have along those floor to ceiling windows!

I still remember when this used to be the BA lounge in the old days – you entered downstairs and came up an escalator to this area (roughly where the bar is now). The loos haven’t changed from then!
