Indigo Hotel, Berlin – as part of IHG’s The Big Win promo.

A few days ago I wrote a piece about Berlin probably being one of the most cost effective cities to stay if you want to qualify for IHG’s The Big Win promo in Q1 of 2014. You can find my reasoning here.

Amongst the points I made were that IHG has a lot of properties in the city and that it has several brands there also, so depending on what the goals set by IHG are, you can probably manage them here fairly easily.

To kick off a series of reviews over the next few days I am starting with the Indigo Hotel Ku’damm. It is close to Zoo station (5 minutes walk) and so manageable if you catch the bus from Tegel Airport to Zoo.

The property was surrounded by road works so it was a bit of trek to find the actual entrance. Up three steps and I was in the large Reception.

The staff were welcoming, spoke excellent English and explained how I needed to reached my room. A glass elevator whisked me to the 6th floor where my upgraded room awaited. (All very Charlie and The Chocolate Factory!)

The room was not huge but was well designed. And I soon discovered, had a balcony. I wish I had been here in summer as it was would have been a great place to spend the evening with a bottle of wine, surveying the roofs of Berlin.

The location of the room is shown below:

Summary
A nice, well maintained, affordable and comfortable hotel in Central Berlin. 5 minutes walk from buses and Subway and about 10 minutes to KaDeWe and the Zoo. Very much in the West of the City. Friendly staff, a nice upgrade (as a Priority Club Platinum) made the stay excellent. Recommended.

Comments

  1. If you want an independent hotel nearby (I know- defeating the purpose of a points blog) I very much like the Savoy just around the corner. Cosy and old fashioned, and they usually have good deals on rooms.

  2. Stayed here in May and found it an attractive property as you did. In fact, I had the room next to yours (reverse layout) and did enjoy a morning coffee on the terrace before heading down to breakfast. Agree the staff was friendly and location good, price equally so (though my normal haunt is the IC which is a bit more convenient given the #200 bus stop and short walk to KeDeWe. Surprised the street works were still blocking your way…they were there six months ago too!
