Hyatt Regency, San Francisco Airport – REVIEW

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Over the years I have stayed at this property many times. It is the only Hyatt at the airport, and indeed of the major United Hubs on the West Coast, SFO was the only one with a Hyatt near by (until the Hyatt Place at LAX opened, of course).

The property is located near the end of the landing runways at SFO, the ones that reach in to the Bay. Indeed the property is visible from the left hand side of the plane.

Access to the Property is via shared shuttle bus with the Marriott, which operates every 10-20 minutes from the airport. You can also get the BART to Millbrae and there is usually a taxi available. Otherwise it’s a 20 minute walk. The Caltrain stop at Burlingame is 15 minute walk and you can connect to the Burlingame Shuttle to the hotel.

The property is a ring shape with inward (atrium) and outward facing rooms. Personally I find that the inside rooms are little stuffy so usually ask for an outside room. On this stay they managed an outside room, although with a view only of the Freeway:

The room itself was a standard king bedded room, styled in the new Hyatt decor:

The bathroom had the new style sink and shower curtain with tub:

There is a Regency Club on the 9th Floor which provides continental breakfast and snacks in the evening. During the day you can help yourself to sodas

There are good views from the lounge of the airport, both take off and landing runways.

The lounge has a balcony where you can sit outside on nice days. The man working the lounge was excellent – nothing was too much trouble and he knew the spread so that he could advise on food allergies. There are two new computers and printers in lounge with free internet.

  1. I’m visiting SF for the first time in November. Flying LA-SF on Sunday 3rd Nov and then SF-LHR on the evening of Tuesday the 6th.
I’m not on business and we’ll be doing the usual Alcatraz (booked already), tram ride stuff. Not hiring a car.
I’m just not sure where to stay. The airport hotels look less expensive and also convenient as we’re only in town for two nights, but maybe I’ll miss the centre?
I’m Hilton Gold, Intercon Plat, but the Hilton Union Sq is ridiculously expensive.
    Any advice appreciated.

  2. @Paul – if you plan to do the sights I fear you will miss the centre. You can travel in each day – the BART from the airport takes 30-40 minutes and costs about $8 each, each way.
Have a look at the Grand Hyatt and the Hyatt Embarcadero.
In addition, Intercontinental Group has lot of hotels.
Unfortunately, San Fransisco is a popular destination at all times of year.

  3. Great SFO hotel for points. Only 8000 Hyatt points per night with free airport shuttle. Looking forward to my stay in January.

  4. This Hyatt has done a lot of business with the NFL teams coming to play at Candlestick…..next year it may have even better deals…….a great value for 8k and there are some good restaurants nearby in Burlingame…….quirky little town…..
