Lufthansa announces changes to Miles & More for 2014

In a series of moves which appear to be designed to increase benefits to elite members, Lufthansa has announced its planned changes for Miles and Miles in 2014.

Status Customers – Frequent Travellers, Senators and HON members will have the chance to earn extra benefits dependent on the number of flights taken. More details in January 2014.

Status Stars will be added to cards showing how many years of elite membership they have had. Details from November.

Earning Miles in Economy

LH are making a number of changes to earning on flights operated by Adria, Air Dolomiti, Austrian, Brussels, Croatia, Germanwings, LOT, LH and Swiss. The changes basically reduce the number of miles earned on lower fare classes.

Within German – Q/S/V/W fares reduce to 250 miles and E, T fares reduce to 125 miles.

European Flights – S/W fares reduce to 500 miles and T fares reduce to 125 miles.

Non-European locations – Q/S/V/W fares reduce to 250 miles or 0.5 miles flown and E/K/L/T fares reduce to 250 or 0.25 miles flown

  1. Calling drastically cutting earning rates with a promise of some gimmick in the future as “moves which appear to be designed to increase benefits to elite members” is an insult to anyone reading it.
